Red Top Slide \u2014 Dewater System

The Red Top Slide project in Oakland, California required a comprehensive dewatering solution to support vertical shaft construction through an active landslide. JDC was brought in to design, install, and commission the complete system.

JDC installed 8 deep pumping wells, including all electrical systems and discharge piping, to dewater the zone around the shaft during construction. After installation, JDC trained the general contractor to operate and maintain the system independently \u2014 a turnkey approach that kept the project on track.

Beyond the dewatering wells, JDC also installed 138,000 lineal feet of horizontal drains from within the vertical shaft itself \u2014 using the shaft as a working platform to radiate drains outward into the landslide mass for mass dewatering. This combination of vertical well dewatering and horizontal drain installation addressed both the immediate construction need and the long-term slope stability challenge.
