Problems Solved

Ground Water & Subsurface Pressure

Excess subsurface water is the root cause behind a lot of geotechnical headaches. JDC's dewatering and drain capability is the answer.

THE PROBLEM

Subsurface water shows up as the underlying driver in slope movement, foundation distress, shaft construction risk, and a long list of other site problems. Pumping the surface dry doesn't fix it. The answer is dewatering — either pulling water out vertically through wells or letting it drain horizontally out of the formation.

JDC'S APPROACH

JDC designs and installs complete dewatering systems — deep well eductors, wellpoint systems, and educator wells with pressure and return headers feeding collector tanks. Wells run from 8 to 36 inches in diameter. Licensed hydrologists on our team design the system; our crews drill it, install the headers and pumps, and turn it over to operations.

When the problem is better solved by drainage than pumping, our horizontal drain program installs drains up to 1,500 feet in depth at angles from 30 degrees below to 60 degrees above horizontal — across a wide range of soils and rock formations.

Location and access are rarely the constraint. JDC has installed dewatering systems via barge access and crane access, in addition to standard site work.

JDC'S TOOLKIT

  • Deep well dewatering systems with well diameters from 8 to 36 inches
  • Wellpoint systems for shallow groundwater control
  • Educator wells with pressure and return headers for fine-grained formations needing more than 20 feet of pumping capacity
  • Horizontal drains installed up to 1,500 feet in depth, at angles from 30 degrees below to 60 degrees above horizontal
  • Complete systems designed by licensed hydrologists on staff
