THE PROBLEM
The geotechnical fix is rarely in an easy place. Submerged infrastructure sits 50 feet under water. Slide-prone slopes go nearly vertical. Tunnel drainage runs at angles standard rigs aren't built for. A drilling contractor that can't solve the access problem is a drilling contractor that can't do the work.
JDC'S APPROACH
JDC has been engineering specialty drilling equipment in-house since 1966 — much of it built specifically for over-water and difficult-access sites. For lake-bottom work, we built a purpose-built barge with a 150-foot open middle section to mount two Longyear BD 102 drills, used to install over 400 anchors in 50 feet of water on the Lake Oswego floating sewer job (AGC Project of the Year, 2010).
For high-slope rock bolt, soil nail, and anchor work, we use platforms suspended by crane rather than rope access — safer for the crew, more accurate for production drilling, and faster to position. Our horizontal drain program installs drains across a wide range of soils and rock with all types of accessibility challenges.
Geographically, JDC has executed projects throughout the United States and Canada — and our estimators and project supervisors are structured to bid and supervise projects across the continent.
