Persistent Seepage Zones

THE PROBLEM

Surface drainage and ditch work can manage the symptom of a persistent seep, but they don't address the formation behind it. The water keeps showing up — usually in the same place, often after every storm — and the surface infrastructure keeps failing in the same pattern.

JDC'S APPROACH

JDC's horizontal drain program lets us reach into the formation that's feeding the seep — installing drains up to 1,500 feet in depth, at angles from 30 degrees below to 60 degrees above horizontal, and across a wide range of soils and rock. Once installed, drains intercept the water before it reaches the surface and route it to existing tributaries via conveyance systems we've designed and installed elsewhere.

The drilling capability behind this work — including specialty equipment designed and manufactured by JDC — is what allows us to reach the angles and depths off-the-shelf rigs typically can't. JDC has been refining horizontal drain technology since 1966 and is prepared to travel worldwide for the work.
