North Dakota DOT Tie Back Anchors

Project Description

Jensen Drilling Company Installed 81 multi-strand tie back tendons averaging 140 feet in length as part of a grade beam retention wall to mitigate an active landslide on Interstate 94 near Theodore Roosevelt National Park. This project served as a pilot design for the DOT to utilize post tensioning methods to mitigate costly yearly paving repairs in multiple areas of active movement. JDC utilized extensive post grouting methods and techniques to develop adequate bond strength for tendon installed in low strength formations.

In addition, Jensen Drilling installed several different real time monitoring instrumentation components to quantify slide movement once construction was complete. Instrumentation components included dyna force sensors and load cells.

“Post grouting was the link to success.”
