Horizontal Drain Drilling - US 20 PME

Project Description

Jensen Drilling Company installed over 587,000 feet (approximately 111 miles) of horizontal drains to date throughout a new 5.5-mile stretch of Highway 20 over the last ten years of construction, the majority completed in the last five years. Landslide mitigation engineers were faced with designing a new roadway through several active landslides, and chose aggressive placement of horizontal drains as one of the key components to stabilize them.

In addition, JDC constructed conveyance systems to direct water flow from the horizontal drains into existing tributaries. Calculated flows through on-site weirs have recorded over several million gallons of water in 48 hour periods during large rain events. Jensen Drilling Company utilized multiple drill units and multiple work shifts around the clock to deliver these components of the contract on time during tight contract schedules and narrow work seasons.
